Ideas for holidays, weekends and trips in Murcia and its surroundings
The sunny city of Murcia is perfect for a weekend away or a longer holiday, as there is lots to see and do here as well as soaking up the sunshine. Starting with the city centre, the places to see are the Murcia Cathedral, which dates from the 15th century, and the town hall, a beautiful red-brick building. La Fuensanta, 12km from the hotel, is a sanctuary and is right next to the El Valle y Carrascoy National Park, so you can see both of these on the same trip. Murcia is a culturally rich city, and one of the museums on the to-visit list is the Museo de Arte Ibérico (Iberian Art Museum), which comprises 10 rooms full of archaeological artefacts found from excavations carried out in the Murcia region. The Santa Clara museum, 3. 4km from the Campanile Murcia hotel, is a treasure trove of religious art and history from the Santa Clara convent, as well as remains from Moorish and Christian palaces that were built in the area. Of course, no trip to Murcia would be complete without experiencing the region's culinary delights. Being near the coast, Murcia is a seafood region, so why not try some of the seafood dishes on offer in some of Murcia's Murcia's restaurants? Another speciality of the region is gazpacho jumillano, which is pickled partridge, and Murcia is well-known for its fruit and vegetables, so make sure to try all of these while you're there!
